Improving My Family Vacations

How To Make Your Family Vacation Fun On A Budget

by Agustin Gimenez

If you are taking a vacation with your family, it's more than likely you have a budget that you are trying very hard to stick to. You are covering meals, entertainment, and other costs the whole time, and you probably want to be conscious of how much you are spending. To help make your family vacation fun, but still friendly with your budget, there are a number of things you can do. Read on for helpful tips.

Take Advantage Of The Breakfast

Get your family up early and in time for the hotel breakfast. It's one meal you don't have to worry about paying extra for, and if it's available, you should take full advantage. You can fill up on breakfast and hopefully, if lunch is necessary, only eat a small meal for lunch and save a few bucks. Breakfast at a hotel is usually very filling and there's a number of options, including hot or cold items, which is great for those pickier eaters. Talk to the hotel you're looking to stay at about a breakfast option.

Check Out The Hotel Offerings

Your hotel may offer a number of kid-friendly things to do, even if it's just spending a day at the pool. If the hotel has a pool, get in it and enjoy a day relaxing at the hotel. For some kids, this is the most fun — there's no hustle or bustle, it's just plain old fun. A pool day may be just what you need as well. Sometimes parents need to decompress on vacation, just like the kids do. Take advantage of any other hotel offerings that are going on that are kid-friendly.

Use The Mini Fridge

That small refrigerator can really come in handy, especially when you have a family. Keep small snacks in the room to give the kids when you have some downtime and they're hungry between meals. There is usually a coffee maker and a microwave, which can also come in handy to get yourself coffee in the morning to get moving. The microwave can be used to make smaller meals, such as macaroni and cheese bowls for the kids, or even to heat up a hot dog for a quick snack.

Vacation is supposed to be fun! Don't spend your entire vacation worrying about your budget. Plan for some days of fun at the hotel in between the rest of your sight-seeing or running around. Talk to the hotel concierge about other things the hotel may have to offer that can save you money on your vacation as well.
